Do you love making sense of things?
Come play with curious minds like yours.
WHAT IS THE SENSEMAKERS CLUB?
A welcoming online space where curious minds meet to learn and grow together.
Finding people who love diving into ideas can be tough outside of work. We believe sharing thoughts with others is the best way to grow and learn.
Here at The Sensemakers Club, you'll sharpen your thinking skills while working through challenges together - and maybe find some fellow nerds to call friends along the way.

Meet our Chief Sensemaker:
ABBY COVERT, SHE/HER
Meet Abby Covert, the mind behind The Sensemakers Club. For over twenty years, she's been helping people and organizations turn unclear things into clear ones.
As an author, speaker, and teacher, Abby noticed something important: the best ideas often come from talking things through with others who think differently than you do.
After traveling the world speaking about how to make sense of complex problems, Abby created this club as a place where curious people could find each other and grow together. She believes that no one should have to tackle big, messy challenges alone - and that sometimes the best solutions come from conversations with people who see things from a different angle.
When she's not bringing sensemakers together in the club, you can find Abby writing books about clearing up confusion, speaking at events, or searching for new ways to help people make sense of their work and world.
Our Story
The Sensemakers Club started in 2021 with a simple idea: bring curious people together to share how they make sense of tricky problems. Our first event, Makesensemess, was meant to be a one-time gathering where people could swap stories about their work solving messy challenges. But something unexpected happened - people didn't want to leave. They found others who shared their love for diving into complex ideas and making them clearer.
That first spark grew into a bright community. By 2024, we evolved into daily discussion groups where members could drop in, share ideas, and learn from each other in a space where job titles take a back seat to genuine curiosity. What started as a single event has become a daily meeting place for people who believe that making sense of things is better when we do it together.

Some call her work information architecture, but she simply calls it making sense of messes. As an author, speaker, and teacher, Abby noticed something important: the best ideas often come from talking things through with others who think differently than you do.

Deserving of much deeper exploration

MEET THE SENSEMAKERS IN RESIDENCE
ALFI OLOO, HE/HIM
Hey there! I'm Alfi, a mix of Product designer, smart-tech enthusiast, mentor, and storyteller, all rolled into one. I've journeyed through the realms of advertising, fintech, and IoT (internet of things), only to discover that my true calling lies in empowering the voices of tomorrow. As a Designer, coach, agent, and now, an instructor at The Sensemakers Club, I'm all about nurturing a community where peer mentorship and self-directed learning aren't just buzzwords—they're our way of life.
CLAIR ROCK, THEY/THEM
I'm here to obsess over language. I am an information nerd trying to make sense of language. Specifically, how it affects interactions and experiences.
Like most people in the information-sphere I took a pretty roundabout journey to get to where I am. I have backgrounds in documentary filmmaking, education, and information architecture. If you can’t immediately find the common thread between these items - it’s storytelling.
Why does that matter? Effective story-telling relies on an intelligent use of language. I've worked in various areas with different clients, like international humanitarian groups, independent contractors, and global health companies. Now, I mainly focus on health-related projects as an information architect and UX designer.
But how did I really get into language?
A few years ago I was able to look into how to use information architecture to make websites feel more inclusive. I did a ton of research, learned a lot, and that all turned into my first ever conference talk. I've since done much more research and realized how often we overlook language in design and research. I also have a unique relationship with language as a trans person. I use the highly-debated singular-they pronoun, so fun. I've done a lot of self-assessment and learning, I've had countless educational conversations. Often with complete strangers...
As the next Sensemaker in Residence, I’m hoping to inspire a deeper focus on language. I want to encourage designers and researchers to take more responsibility. I want to empower copywriters to make bold moves.
Over the years I have been able to regularly talk to Abby about this obsession. And she has inspired me to take a deeper dive into it, break it down and make sense of it. She’s also made it pretty clear that this is not a unique hyper-fixation of mine alone and that this is something a lot of people are also curious about.
My goal is to help others understand and utilize language to create truly accessible experiences for any human.

KEVIN SHEARER, HE/HIM
Hey everyone, I'm Kevin Shearer. I have a passion for making meaningful change where ever I end up!
I am currently a producer here at the Sensemakers Club. I think of myself as a bit of a Swiss army knife for the team. I manage many aspects of our team's online presence such as our social media, website, e-courses, technical support, research and more.
I am also a student at UCF specializing in documentary film. I have a strong drive to create content covering climate change and how we can help as individuals, but more importantly, what we can do as a community on a larger scale.
Despite my technical focused background, I also really enjoy artistic endeavors as well. I enjoy writing, illustrating, 3D modeling and even game development. Anything I can do to tell an interesting story gets me motivated!
I became a part of Abby's team back in August 2023. Since then, I have developed a great appreciation for the Sensemakers Club community. I have learned so much from being a part of this team and look forward to what is to come.
My goal here at the Sensemakers Club is to make sure everyone has the tools and information they need to be successful in their professional and personal lives. If I can make the process of bettering yourself easier in any way, I will do my best to make that happen!
That's about it for me though, thanks for your time!
